Biography
Born in Singapore, Cherie played the piano for 12 years before discovering her true passion in singing. She spent a few years of her early childhood in Hong Kong before returning home. Upon her enrolment in Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (Singapore) for her tertiary education, she studied singing alongside piano. She continued to complete her Bachelor’s degree at NAFA and the Royal College of Music (London), and then joined the Singapore Lyric Opera - Leow Siak Fah Artist Training Programme for 2 years. Cherie pursued her Master’s degree in Music Performance at the Royal Northern College of Music where she attained a Distinction for the postgraduate studies.
An accomplished vocalist, Cherie's accolades include 1st prize at the NAFA Vocal Competition 2017, 2nd prize in the Williams-Howard Memorial Prize 2022 (UK), 2nd prize in the 7th Tan Ngiang Kaw/Tan Ngiang Ann Vocal Competition, the Gold Award in the 5th Bangkok Opera Singing Competition. She was also a finalist in the SLO-ASEAN Vocal Competition in 2018 and Southeast Asia Bach Competition 2025. She gained national recognition as a winning singer on Channel 5's I Can See Your Voice Singapore.
To date, Cherie has performed roles such as Zerlina (Don Giovanni), Susanna (Le Nozze di Figaro), Frasquita (Carmen), Ifigenia (Oreste), First Lady (Die Zauberflöte), Diana and First Priestess (Iphigénie en Tauride), Ghita (Der Zwerg), High Priestess (Aida), Sandman and Dew-fairy (Hansel and Gretel), Chloé (Daphnis et Chloé), and covered the role of Pamina (Die Zauberflöte). Cherie performed in the world premiere of Singaporean composer Chen Zhang Yi’s chamber opera, Window Shopping, playing the role Girl. She was also the soprano solo in the world premiere of “Songs of the Dragon Kiln”, composed by Singaporean composer Zechariah Goh.
She has performed with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra, The Hallé, Singapore Lyric Opera, Ding Yi Music Company, RNCM Orchestra, West Winds, Hallelujah Oratorio Society, The Opera People, Music For People, Singapore International Festival of the Arts and Philharmonic Winds, Red Dot Baroque, and Musicians’ Initiative. She recently sang the national anthem of Singapore at the National Day Concert 2026 organised by Mediacorp and Gardens By The Bay.
Her 2026 performances include concerts with the SSO, Mediacorp, and the operatic role of Flora Bervoix from Verdi's La Traviata. Cherie has performed in Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan, Thailand, Japan, Austria, and the UK. She speaks English, Mandarin, Cantonese and some German.
